Like other contact sports, wrestling puts participants at risk for a variety of ailments, from concussions to broken bones. A study in the American Journal of Sports Medicine found that wrestling causes more concussions in athletes than football.


According to Jim Guinta of the National Collegiate Wrestling Association, most concussion injuries occur during a takedown. Given the recognized risk factors, wrestlers and coaches regularly monitor head injuries and pay special attention to hard falls to prevent serious long-term damage. Read more below.
