The shadow of a black hole
This is the first image ever taken of a black hole. It is located at the center of the galaxy Messier 87. The image was created using information collected by the Event Horizon Telescope, a group of radio observatories. It is possible to observe the shadow of the black hole, which is surrounded by a glowing disk of interstellar gas, and whose edge is the event horizon (the point of no return).
